Work out how much of your House Rent Allowance (HRA) is exempt from tax under the old regime.

Exemption is the lowest of: actual HRA received, rent paid minus 10% of basic salary, or 50% of basic (metro) / 40% of basic (non-metro). HRA exemption applies only under the old tax regime, and you must have actually paid rent to claim it.
