Alert Day: Rounds of heavy rain expected throughout the Thursday forecast for Southeast Louisiana

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING for St. John, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Washington Parishes, and Pearl River county until 6:15 a.m. Wind speeds of 60 mph are expected.
Today is a WDSU First Warning Weather Alert Day due to rounds of heavy rain expected throughout the day. The first round happens before noon. The second round happens in the afternoon to evening.
The morning storms could bring rounds of heavy rain that could lead to street flooding in some spots. There is a level threat for strong to severe storms.

- Now-11 a.m.: heavy rain expected
- 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.: brief break possible
- 1 p.m. – 6 p.m.: redevelopment
Impacts:
- Frequent lightning
- Heavy rain that could lead to street flooding
- Strong winds
- Small hail
A brief break is expected before redevelopment this afternoon. Those storms could be strong to severe, depending on how much daytime heating we get. We could also see more heavy rain that could lead to flash flooding.
The rain is expected to keep our temperatures down a bit into the mid to upper 80s.
Overnight lows are expected to fall to the mid 70s with rain ending.
More rain is possible throughout our Friday, but the intensity and coverage is not expected to be anything like Thursday. Highs will reach the upper 80s.
We’ll see smaller rain chances for Saturday as highs approach the low 90s. Greater rain chances possible Sunday.
