Google Play Store is getting a makeover of sorts, as two major sections of the app are seeing UI changes with the July update. This brings a new design to the Games and Apps tabs, while the Books tab retains its current/old look. This update mainly streamlines the UI and makes it slightly easier to find apps/games than before. The new redesign is reportedly starting to roll out widely.
Google Play Store’s latest UI update refreshes Apps and Games tabs
Currently, in the Google Play Store, you’ll find tabs like For You, Top charts, Kids, and Categories at the top. Meanwhile, the Games tab also has a tab for Premium. Below that is a carousel of apps, followed by a list of apps under that. With the new UI change, things will be slightly different and might take some learning before you get used to it.
With the July update to the Google Play Store, you’ll notice some UI changes to the tabs. They are now in pill-shaped containers. Tapping on Top charts or categories will now reportedly open a separate page. You will need to hit the back arrow button in the top left corner to return to the home page.
For You tab has been removed
There’s no longer a For You tab. Its content is now the default home page for both Games and Apps tabs. In addition to these changes, folks at Android Authority report new UI changes for Google Play Points. If you can remember, your Play Points were previously present in a blue pill container at the top of the page. As per the screenshots shared by the outlet, Google has removed this container (last image in the gallery below).
Lastly, the company seems to have rolled out a new style for badge notifications as well. Android Authority reports that the new UI for the Google Play Store is rolling out more widely. But it’s okay if you don’t see it hit your device yet, as updates like these usually come out in batches.
