Tata Sierra EV to JSW Jetour T2


In order to capitalise on the Diwali season, manufacturers are lining up high-stakes launches ranging from electric SUVs to rugged Plug-in Hybrids. While Tata Motors will introduce its long-awaited electric SUV, two brand new plug-in hybrids will enter the Indian mass-market segment. Here are the top 4 all-new SUVs confirmed to hit Indian roads by Diwali 2026 –

Nissan Tekton – Debut on July 9, 2026

The long-awaited Nissan Tekton mid-size SUV is set to make its public debut in India on July 9, 2026. Sales of the new model is expected to commence during the festive season, before Diwali 2026. The SUV draws design inspiration from the legendary Nissan Patrol, which is also heading to our market. The new SUV will directly challenge the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and others in the midsize SUV segment. 

The Tekton will carry a boxy silhouette, signature “V-motion” chrome grille, and C-shaped LED signatures. It will come equipped with features like a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a digital driver’s display, panoramic sunroof, LEVEL 2 ADAS and ventilated seats. It will share the platform and engine options with the new Renault Duster, including a 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo petrol, a 1.3L turbo petrol and a 1.8L strong hybrid engine. 

Tata Sierra EV – Launch: August – September 2026

Tata Motors has officially announced that the Sierra EV will be launched in Q2, FY2027 (between July and September).  It will be based on the Acti.ev platform that also underpins the Tata Curvv EV. The electric SUV will take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, and others in the category. 

The Tata Sierra EV will be offered with two battery choices, including a 55kWh and a 65kWh. The bigger battery pack will also receive a dual-motor AWD setup. The higher-spec variants are also reportedly to get the iconic “Lounge” seating at the rear. It is expected to offer a real-world range of around 500 km+ on a single charge. 

MG Starlight 560 – Launch by October 2026

MG is looking to introduce plug-in hybrid vehicles, including the Starlight 560 in the Indian market. Based on the Wuling Starlight 560, the PHEV has been spotted testing multiple times in India. Not just PHEV, MG is also considering launching the EV-derivative of the Starlight 560 SUV to rival the Mahindra XEV 9S and the upcoming Tata Safari EV. 

The Starlight 560 PHEV is designed to offer the best of both worlds: a combined range of over 1100km and a usable electric-only model for city commutes. It is packed with a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine paired with a powerful electric motor. It features a 20.5kWh LFP battery pack, and offers a claimed 125 km of pure electric range. The combined power and torque output tands at 197hp and 230Nm, respectively. The hybrid is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in 9.7 seconds before hitting an electronically limited top speed of 170kmph.

JSW Jetour T2 – Launch by Diwali 2026

Jetour T2 PHEV Diwali Launch

JSW Motors in partnership with China is bringing the Jetour T2 Plug-in hybrid SUV in India. This rugged, boxy SUV offers a combination of the rugged Defender-like aesthetics and a high-tech plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain. Scheduled to be launched by Diwali 2026, the new SUV offers a staggering 1200km combined range on a single tank of fuel and a full charge. 

The new Jetour T2 is powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with a dual-motor setup paired with a 26.7 kWh battery pack. The combined power and torque output stands at 381hp and 610Nm, respectively. For daily city commutes, the PHEV offers an electric-only range of around 139km.
