Vedanta Power Limited reported a strong start to FY 2026-27, with power sales rising 38 percent year-on-year to 5,225 million units in the quarter ended June 30, 2026. However, sales were 6 percent lower compared with 5,530 million units in the March quarter.
The company said the quarter covered both pre- and post-demerger periods, as Vedanta Power was demerged from Vedanta Limited during Q1 FY27. It noted that comparisons with previous periods should therefore be viewed in this context.
Meenakshi Energy Drives Sales Growth
Meenakshi Energy recorded the sharpest increase during the quarter, with power sales reaching 1,350 million units. This represented a 245 percent rise from 391 million units in the year-ago period and a 16 percent increase from 1,161 million units in Q4 FY26.
The company noted that the year-ago quarter reflected operations from a single 300 MW unit, while the latest quarterly performance was based on the plant’s expanded operational capacity of 1,000 MW.
Power sales from the Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant stood at 2,723 million units, largely unchanged from 2,715 million units in Q1 FY26. Sequentially, sales increased 14 percent from 2,386 million units in the previous quarter.
The plant’s availability factor stood at 86 percent during the quarter, compared with 90 percent a year earlier and 77 percent in Q4 FY26. Vedanta Power said the plant’s power purchase agreement with the Punjab government provides compensation based on normative plant availability of 80 percent, while availability during Q1 remained above this level.
Sakti Operations Hit by Boiler Incident
Sales from the Sakti Thermal Plant stood at 465 million units during the quarter, down 57 percent sequentially from 1,087 million units in Q4 FY26. The plant had recorded no sales in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
The company attributed the decline to lower plant availability following a boiler incident on April 14, 2026. The facility, formerly known as the Athena Power Plant, has remained temporarily shut since the incident.
Jharsuguda Sales Rise Marginally YoY
The Jharsuguda Thermal Plant sold 687 million units of electricity during Q1 FY27, up 1 percent from 678 million units a year earlier. On a sequential basis, however, sales declined 23 percent from 896 million units.
Its plant availability factor improved sharply to 93 percent from 66 percent in the year-ago quarter, while remaining broadly stable compared with 94 percent in Q4 FY26.
