Tata Sierra AWD Spotted!

The Sierra has been on sale for quite a few months now, so why is Tata still testing it? The Sierra EV is set for launch very soon, and it is possible that Tata is conducting ground testing before the launch. But with these spyshots, one key detail stands out – the exhaust. This test mule is powered by sweet-smelling fossil fuels, which suggests Tata is planning bigger things for the ICE version.
Tata has hinted at bringing the AWD drivetrain to the Sierra. The demand for an AWD is evident with the Harrier.ev, and Tata will be looking to bring this drivetrain to the top variants of the Sierra. The original Sierra was offered with a 4WD option (from 1998), and it is only fair that its successor possesses some off-roading capabilities as well.

What Else?

The Sierra omits one feature that is quite puzzling. You can’t get a heads-up display with the triple-screen layout. The top variants miss out on a HUD, while it is offered with mid-spec models. Tata could change this at the same time as it announces the AWD drivetrain.
Otherwise, the feature list would remain the same with features like triple-screen setup, level-2+ ADAS, panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, 360-degree camera, wireless charging, etc continuing to be on offer.
Moreover, the powertrain and gearbox options won’t change. The same 1.5-litre NA petrol (104 bhp & 145 Nm), 1.5-litre diesel (116 bhp & 280 Nm), and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol (158 bhp & 255 Nm), along with a 6-speed manual, 6-speed AT, and 7-speed DCT, would remain the options.

Expected Pricing & Launch

AWD will be offered on the top-trims, and you would have to pay a premium of around Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 lakh over the FWD counterpart to own one. We expect AWD to be offered on the Accomplished and Accomplished+ trims, priced between Rs 20.96 lakh and Rs 25.36 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
Speculation suggests that its launch is very near. We could see the Sierra AWD as early as May 2026. So if you are planning to buy the Sierra, you should wait until Tata unveils the AWD. The AWD may not have much purpose for most owners, but knowing that the Sierra is capable of tackling tough terrains is a good enough reason to consider it.
