‘Submitted a bid’ – Fabrizio Romano drops Newcastle United transfer news

The Premier League is now in full swing and we have seen some big clubs stumble right out of the gates. Manchester United lost 2-0 to newly promoted Hull City. Tottenham Hotspur, after so much heavy spending this summer, have been handed a 3-0 defeat by Brentford. Newcastle United will be looking to add the name of Liverpool to that list.

Newcastle United are set to welcome Liverpool to St James’ Park for the Premier League opener on Sunday. And after what we have seen over the summer, the Reds have to be considered heavy favourites.

So many key players have left Newcastle United. Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes have departed. And those who have been brought in in return are youngsters and not ready to fill those empty spots.

The pre-season results proved to be poor. And yet, more Newcastle United players continue to be linked with moves away from St James’ Park as we approach the end of the summer transfer window.

Newcastle United receive another bid

According to Fabrizio Romano, Besiktas have submitted a bid to Newcastle United for Joe Willock as their top target in midfield. The decision is up to the Magpies.

On one hand, Willock is not someone who was a nailed-on starter for Newcastle United. He played 1650 minutes of football last season and started only 10 times in the Premier League.

On paper, that is the kind of player that a club can afford to let go for the right offer. But that might not be the case for Newcastle United under the current circumstances.

They have already lost far too much experience and proven quality in their midfield with Tonali and Guimaraes. Willock’s situation is going to make the situation worse.

Newcastle cannot afford to let Willock go right now

Romano has not revealed the magnitude of the bid. But it is not expected to be significant enough for it to change Newcastle United’s situation in the transfer market.

And as the Magpies continue to struggle to get deals over the line, they should be cautious of letting someone like Willock go at this moment.

If they can bring in a couple of established midfielders over the coming days, perhaps the idea can be entertained. Nico Gonzalez is one that is being linked with the club lately.

Not before that though. As things stand, Newcastle United’s midfield options are paper-thin and they need to keep someone like Willock around.
