EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) -The National Weather Service has upgraded the Tri-State to an Extreme Heat Warning through Sunday. Extreme heat means heat index values of 110 and greater expected for a prolonged period. We are on alert for extreme heat conditions through Sunday. Daily highs will reach the middle 90s, and even upper 90s over the weekend, while stifling humidity will increase the danger from the heat. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are more likely, especially if you are doing strenuous activity outdoors without frequent breaks and water. At these levels, it’s recommended that you rest at least 30 minutes per hour outdoors and consume at least 32 ounces of water per hour to replenish your body’s cooling capacity.

A series of severe storms continues to roll just north of the Tri-State. Best chance for severe storms will be Wednesday afternoon and evening. Damaging winds are the most likely threat, but tornadoes will be possible within the organized lines of storms. Additional isolated storms may pop up on Thursday and Friday. The longer range forecast breaks the heat wave early next weeks as temps fall back into the upper 80s.
