Viktor Hovland entered the 2023 FedEx Cup Playoffs ranked number seven on the PGA Tour, a truly breakthrough season for one of the game’s most exciting young prospects. Hovland was 25 years old and had a successful year, including a playoff win at won the Memorial Tournament over Denny McCarthy. He finished in a tie for 13th at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in week one of the Playoffs, but catapulted to the top of the standings thanks to a decisive BMW victory at Olympia Fields Country Club in Illinois.
During the final round, Hovland shot a course record 61, including a staggering 7-under 28 on the back nine. He beat runners-up Scottie Scheffler and Matt Fitzpatrick by two strokes each, and catapulted himself into second position heading into the Playoffs’ final week.
