MAP: PG&E warns of likely power shutoffs in Northern California as fire risk rises this weekend
SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Pacific Gas and Electric Company warned that it will likely shut off power in multiple counties this weekend to prevent its equipment from sparking fires.
The utility said an elevated fire risk from winds, low humidity and dry fuels could require activating its Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) protocol on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
KCRA 3 Meteorologist Ophelia Young said it will be windy in the Sierra on Saturday, with sustained winds of 20-30 mph and gusts up to 45 mph. On the ridgetops, gusts could reach 55 mph.
Sunday’s winds will be significantly weaker but, as prevailing winds switch out of the northwest, the air will dry, increasing the fire danger, she said.

- Plumas
- Shasta
- Sierra
- Tehama
