England midfielder Elliot Anderson will get plenty of support from his hometown for Wednesday’s semi against Argentina

A Turkish restaurant in North Tyneside that’s a favourite of England midfielder Elliot Anderson and his Love Island famous brother Wil will be right behind him on Wednesday night. And Turknaz in Whitley Bay will also be showing the game as fans hope that the new Newcastle star puts in another stellar performance and Thomas Tuchel’s men make the World Cup final.
While it has been, quite rightly, Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane who have grabbed the lion’ share of the headlines so far, thanks to the in form forwards both scoring six goals each, Elliot, who now plays for Nottingham Forest, has deservedly earned high praise from both pundits and supporters alike for his impressive performances in an England shirt over the other side of the Atlantic, where older sibling Wil has been cheering him on from the stands since the pre-tournament friendlies early last month.
The centre of Newcastle looks set to be buzzing for England v Argentina, with tickets flying out for fan zones, including the ‘biggest ever’ one in the city, featuring a huge 9 metre wide TV screen. But it’s not just in town where there’ll be keen interest in the crunch clash, up at the coast at Whitley Bay, where Elliot hails from, award winning restaurant Turknaz on North Parade, will be showing the game, with staff right behind one of their most famous customers.
Sharing a photo on Facebook on Monday night, of Elliot and his family enjoying a meal there a few years ago, Turknaz wrote: ‘Everyone at Turknaz is incredibly proud to see Whitley Bay’s own Elliot Anderson helping England reach the FIFA World Cup semi-finals. What an achievement for Elliot, his family, and our town. We’ll be cheering the Three Lions on all the way!’
They added: ‘Come and enjoy the match atmosphere with great food, great company, and let’s get behind England together. IT’S COMING HOME!’
Further up the road in Cramlington, there is similar support for Elliot’s England teammate Dan Burn at highly rated Indian Lal Qila, who are hoping to be celebrating an England win to round off their own 40th birthday festivities in style.
