What’s Happening?
It didn’t take long before we got a hairy situation deep in the pack in the 68th running of the Great American Race. We got our first caution on Lap 5 when B. J. McLeod got had an issue with the right rear tire of his No. 78 Live Fast Motorsports Chevy. The incident caused a stack-up, in which Justin Allgaier (JRM No. 40), back-to-back defending Daytona 500 champion William Byron, Casey Mears, and Noah Gragson were collected. The No. 24 received the most damage as he was pancaked into the outside wall after Allgaier scraped through.
- It has been an emotional up and down Speedweeks for B. J. McLeod. The driver of the No. 78 typically sticks to superspeedway-style tracks ever since his Live Fast team sold their charter and went part-time. So, it was no surprise when it was announced that he’d attempt to make the field as an open team in 2026. He showed up in Daytona Beach with no sponsor and failed to time his way in on Wednesday night.
- On Thursday, he performed admirably in the duel race. However, it appeared that it wasn’t enough. That was until Anthony Alfredo, who initially raced his way into the big race in his No. 62 DUDE Wipes Chevy for Beard Motorsports, was disqualified in post-race inspection. Alfredo was booted from the field and McLeod got in.
- Due to making the Daytona 500, McLeod got sponsorship from Superior Logistics. This went a long way to help this program financially.
- Justin Allgaier was also involved in the incident. He lightly kissed the wall, reciving minimal damage.
