Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to be one big MCU reunion, as another character from the franchise is reportedly returning in the highly anticipated sequel. The film is set to feature Tom Holland in the titular role, as well as some familiar faces, including Mark Ruffalo as Hulk and Jon Bernthal as the Punisher. While at least one of those heroes will team up with Spidey, there is another character that will likely continue to torment the web-slinger in Brand New Day.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, Tony Revolori is set to return as Flash Thompson in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. No further details were revealed, but the character, normally portrayed as Peter Parker’s bully, has played a minor role in the MCU franchise thus far. Despite his comic counterpart becoming an important part of the canon as Agent Anti-Venom, it remains unknown if Revolori’s role will expand in the upcoming sequel. Brand New Day already features a stacked ensemble, including a rogues gallery led by Michael Mando as Scorpion. Adding Flash Thompson to the mix as anything more than a minor character seems unlikely, especially since his role has diminished with each installment.
Of course, with speculation flying that Scorpion could be getting a symbiote upgrade as Venom in Brand New Day, perhaps there is a chance that Flash Thompson also gets a dose of the alien goo. In the comics, Thompson once merged with the Venom symbiote after losing both of his legs in the Iraq War, becoming the vigilante known as Agent Anti-Venom (or just Agent Venom, in some cases). There is a good chance he won’t be a war veteran in Brand New Day, but perhaps a heroic turn is still in play for Revolori’s character.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Complete Cast (So Far)
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been touted as a “ground level” story that moves away from the multiverse premise of the last installment. However, it still features one of the most stacked MCU casts in recent memory. In addition to franchise mainstays, including Tom Holland as Peter Parker, Zendaya as MJ, and Jacob Batalon as Ned, Brand New Day ushers in a new era for the web-slinger with several major players. The rest of the cast includes Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner / Hulk, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle / Punisher, and Michael Mando as Marc Gargan aka Scorpion, Marvin Jones III as Lonnie Lincoln / Tombstone, Sadie Sink, Tramell Tillman, and Liza Colón-Zayas.
While it is unknown who Sink and several other cast members are playing in Brand New Day, there are more villains rumored for the MCU sequel. Alongside Scorpion and Tombstone, names like Boomerang and Mr. Negative have long been tied to the film. There has been no official indication that either will form part of the cast, but if there is another main villain in addition to Scorpion, it seems a fan-favorite like Mr. Negative has a chance to make his big screen debut. No matter the case, Spider-Man will also have his hands full up against Hulk, who will reportedly revert to his savage form.
