Indian Railways has sanctioned a new Amrit Bharat Express service connecting Charlapalli in Hyderabad, Telangana with Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu, marking the third such budget-friendly train for the Telangana capital.
South Central Railway confirmed the Railway Board’s approval for the long-distance service, though officials have yet to finalise the commencement date.
The new service will feature sleeper class and general second class coaches, catering primarily to long-distance travellers seeking affordable connectivity.
Railway authorities indicated the train is expected to be flagged off shortly, with detailed information regarding schedules and stoppages to be announced in due course.
The route will pass through parts of Andhra Pradesh, effectively linking three southern states and providing an economical travel option for passengers moving between the region’s southern and central areas.
This marks Hyderabad’s third Amrit Bharat Express connection, following the existing Charlapalli-Muzaffarpur service and another route to Thiruvananthapuram that Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated in January.
Amrit Bharat Express trains, introduced by Indian Railways in December 2023, operate as fully non-air-conditioned services designed to provide modern amenities at affordable fares.
The trains typically feature enhanced interiors, personal charging stations, improved lighting and CCTV cameras for security, with tickets priced at approximately Rs 500 per 1,000 kilometres without dynamic pricing to ensure accessibility for middle and lower-income travellers across India’s expanding rail network.
