Lexie Hull has played an important role for the Indiana Fever since joining the team in 2022. Her defense, shooting and ability to play multiple positions helped make her a trusted piece of Indiana’s rotation, especially during last year’s injury-filled campaign.
Hull has remained a key part of the Fever‘s rotation in 2026. She returned to the starting lineup on May 17 against the Seattle Storm, with head coach Stephanie White choosing her over Sophie Cunningham. The decision came after Hull worked her way back from a hamstring injury that kept her on the bench for the season-opener against the Dallas Wings.

But Hull’s production has not matched last season’s level, and that has created an interesting situation for a Fever team with playoff ambitions.

Hull has averaged 5.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 31 games this season. She is shooting 43.2% from the field and 34.7% from three.
More concerning has been Hull’s recent form. Over her last five games, she has averaged 3.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.6 assists while shooting 42.9% from the field and 37.5% from three.

Last season, Hull averaged 7.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists while shooting 39.5% overall and 36.7% from three. She also started 30 games and became even more important when injuries impacted Indiana’s roster.
The Fever lost Caitlin Clark and Cunningham to season-ending injuries, while Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson also suffered season-ending setbacks. Hull stepped into a larger role and averaged 10.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists during Indiana’s eight playoff games.
Indiana Fever’s Sophie Cunningham is making a strong case for more starts
Cunningham has made the most of her move to the second unit. She averages 9.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists while shooting 45.2% from three, which ranks second in the WNBA.

Her production has also put her in the Sixth Player of the Year conversation. The Ringer placed Cunningham second in its midseason rankings behind Golden State Valkyries‘ Janelle Salaün.
With Indiana holding fifth place at 19-12, only three games behind the second-place Las Vegas Aces, the Fever have 13 games left to fine-tune their rotation. Cunningham moving into the starting lineup while Hull takes on a bench role could be one option worth considering as Indiana enters the final stretch.
