Somerset Preview: Winner takes all as Rapids buckle up for final day showdown with Somerset

Sunday’s opponents are a side that Worcestershire know all too well, having faced off against the South West side just a fortnight ago, producing one of their most complete performances to date in the Blast to secure a convincing 36-run win.

The frenetic nature of the group stage has meant plenty has changed for both teams since that result however, with Somerset’s win over Northamptonshire Steelbacks on Friday putting them ahead of the Rapids on net run-rate.

Although other results could play a factor in the final outcome, the equation for the visitors on Sunday is clear; win or bust.

Given the deficit between the teams, a loss for Worcestershire would spell the end of their competition, a scenario which Lategan says the Rapids are prepared for.

“It has been a pretty crazy couple of weeks for the boys, even seeing it all unfold day-by-day with teams playing at different times and across different groups, and even though we are aware of the scenario, it is just another game that we we know we have to be at our best.

“We have plans we stick to, and everyone is clear on their roles, but ultimately it is whoever turns up on the day and performs.

“We back our ability and our skillset, and if we perform on Sunday, then we will put ourselves in a good spot.

“Under the lights and in front of a packed house, it should be a pretty exciting one!”
