Live blog – Archer, Tongue hand India their biggest T20I defeat

India won the toss and chose to bowl vs England

Shreyas Iyer won the toss for India and chose to bowl first at Trent Bridge in the third T20I against England.

He confirmed one change from the side that lost the second match in Manchester on Saturday. Prince Yadav steps into the line-up in place of the spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who appears to have paid the price for a costly outing in that match, in which his four overs were launched for 60 runs. “That was just a hiccup,” according to his captain. “It’s a great learning for him.”

The chance to bowl first was informed by Trent Bridge’s reputation as a high-scoring venue, as well as by those notorious ground dimensions. “I feel it’s a beautiful wicket, and one side is short so we want to maximise it and see what they do.”

Harry Brook, England’s captain, named an unchanged XI, but said he was happy to lose the toss, having been undecided about his options. In the end, he said he would have batted first anyway, and given England’s familiarity with these conditions, they will be targetting a significant score on the board to put India’s big-hitters under pressure.

England 1 Phil Salt, 2 Jos Buttler (wk), 3 Harry Brook (capt), 4 Jacob Bethell, 5 Tom Banton, 6 Sam Curran, 7 Will Jacks, 8 Liam Dawson, 9 Jofra Archer, 10 Adil Rashid, 11 Josh Tongue.

India 1 Abhishek Sharma, 2 Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, 3 Ishan Kishan (wk), 4 Shreyas Iyer (capt), 5 Tilak Varma, 6 Harshit Rana, 7 Shivam Dube, 8 Axar Patel, 9 Prince Yadav, 10 Arshdeep Singh, 11 Varun Chakravarthy.
