Pitch Report | Richard Mali: A beautiful day here at the Vivian Richards Stadium, day one of this Test match between Sri Lanka and the West Indies. We’ll have a look at the pitch, all the 22 yards, it’s quite hot. There’s a breeze from east to west here at the Vivian Richards Stadium that aids in that outswing. Quite a few pace bowlers here in both lineups will look to exploit that, but we’ll have a look at the turf. Quite an even covering of grass, a little browner than I expected. I expected maybe a tinge more green, but nonetheless, it will be another pitch in which the seam bowlers will really fancy, especially with new ball in hand. That length a bit fuller, 6 to 8 meters or so, that will be quite testing, especially with new ball in hand on this wicket, but also what we saw in that, when I was here previously, a couple of weeks ago in the four-day final between Trinidad and Guyana, 32 of the 40 wickets were taken by pace. So I’ll expect to see that again in this Test match, but also the spin from the Sri Lankans will come into the game. Overall, looks to be a good all-round wicket favoring all disciplines here today. So it will be very enjoyable and exciting cricket on the card.
