‘Play the Scottish way’ – McGinnpublished at 01:04 BST
Haiti v Scotland (02:00 BST)
Image source, PA MediaScotland midfielder John McGinn tells BBC Scotland: “A bit of pride, excitement, what an occasion, but it’s up to us to stay cold, stay calm and play our game.
“We deserve to be here, we’ve built a lot in the last 10 years. Today has been special, seeing the videos from back home and seeing the excitement here, but it’s up to us now to do what we’ve trained to do since we were young boys – go out there, play with no fear and play the Scottish way.
“There’s not been much sleep. You try but you can hear the bagpipes in the streets, you play scenarios over in your head but we’ve got enough players who have experienced big games this season and over their careers.
“You learn from your mistakes and I think we’re in a good place now to show not only Scotland but Europe and the rest of the world what we can do.
“We’ve looked at Haiti in depth, they’re a very challenging team and have recruited players recently to add to their depth. We’ve got to be at our best to win but that’s what we’ll try and do.
“We’ve got a lot of resilience, that’s in our DNA as people. We don’t, at times, show what we’re capable of but when it’s mattered in this campaign we have. We’ve given the country something to be positive about, everyone is believing in us.
“There’s not an arrogance but a confidence and a swagger that we can go and deliver this time. We deserve it as a group. It’s 90 minutes, both teams have equal opportunity but tonight it’s got to be us.”
