The project site at Joey Georgusis Park in Far West Oak Cliff was mobilized May 15 and is undergoing excavation, Wings CEO and managing partner Greg Bibb told The Dallas Morning News. Construction is set to begin soon, with April 16, 2027, being the expected move-in date.
Only recently did dirt begin to move, despite initial promises to open the 70,000-square-foot facility by spring 2026 from Dallas leadership.
In April 2024, the Wings signed a 15-year, $19 million use agreement with the city to move to downtown’s Memorial Auditorium in time for the 2026 WNBA season. That deal included plans for a new practice facility to be built adjacent to the renovated venue.
Bibb told The News in January that within a month of the ceremony, City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert acknowledged the city would not be able to meet a spring 2026 deadline. Tolbert and Bibb agreed it would be best for the Wings to take over as the developer.
The Wings have since done so, building the facility with $52 million of city money — and $27 million of its own. While the Wings weren’t initially responsible for funding part of the construction, the organization agreed to it.
“A piece of our funding is to accelerate the timeline of the construction to ensure that we have that facility ready for training camp next year,” Bibb said.
The Wings officially took over the project in late April, when they negotiated and signed a developer agreement with the city. That was around when training camp for the 2026 season began at UT-Arlington’s College Park Center.
With the Memorial Auditorium move-in date now pushed to 2028, the team will continue playing home games there for the foreseeable future. But, they can look to practice in a new facility by April 2027.
