Manchester United were sunk by a late Momiko Tanikawa winner as Bayern Munich took the first leg of their Women’s Champions League 3-2 at Old Trafford.
Pernille Harder gave the visitors a second minute lead with a neat finish before United captain Maya Le Tissier cancelled it out with a penalty.
Bayern retook the lead through Harder’s second in the second half but United fought back admirably again to make it 2-2 after Hanna Lundkvist converted from a corner.
But there was more late drama as substitute Tanikawa scored a sublime goal to give Bayern the edge in the quarterfinal.
