The Seattle Seahawks are facing a fairly sizable need at their running back position. With the departure of Kenneth Walker III to the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency, and Zach Charbonnet recovering from a torn ACL, Seattle has to find a way to replicate some of their production in 2026. If they plan to address this need via free agency, one potential option is now off the table for them.
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Rachaad White is reportedly signing a one-year deal with the Washington Commanders. This news was reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Recently, we at Seahawks Wire published an article listing four potential replacement running backs the Seahawks could still target in free agency. White was one of them.
White had four productive years in Tampa, rushing for 2,656 yards and 14 touchdowns. However, his usage as a starter dropped considerably last year with the emergence of Bucky Irving. I figured Seattle would have been a perfect opportunity for him to earn a starting role again since the position at the moment is absolutely wide open.
Alas, it was not meant to be, and there is no indication White was ever on the Seahawks’ radar. Still, they will likely have to sign someone in the near future, and there are viable options left for them.
