Students and teachers at Punjab School Education Board (PSEB)-affiliated schools are on their toes to cover the syllabus as the board’s decision to conduct practical examinations for classes 10 and 12 before the annual theory exams has caught them off guard.
Though the authorities expected to complete the syllabus before commencement of theory exams, which is the usual practice, the PSEB declared practical examinations from February 2 to 12.
Earlier, regular classes were hit as teachers were put on election duties for the Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) polls. Post that, the winter vacations had to be extended as well because of adverse weather conditions, further compounding the problem.
As the situation precipitates, most schools are struggling to cover the syllabus even as the exams close in. The authorities concerned were already making extra efforts for compensate for the multiple delays.
Viney Goyal, Principal of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Senior Secondary School, Ahmedgarh, acknowledged that the development had upset the schedule of almost all teachers.
Goyal appreciated that members of the teaching staff had assured to complete the syllabus of their respective classes before commencement of practical examination by devoting extra time and using their vacant periods.
He claimed the teachers concerned were advised to update students and their parents about the dates of practical exams.
