Shark Tank India 5 is all set to premiere on January 5, and with the latest promos from the show, it seems things will start on an intense note. In one of the promos, ‘sharks’ Aman Gupta and Kunal Bahl will be seen disagreeing over a pitch by a dessert brand. In another promo, Anupam Mittal, Mohit Yadav and Namita Thapar are seen calling out a brand for its unethical practices.
In the first promo, The Croffle Guys founders, Rahul Vohra, Annanya Agarwal, Veer Pinto and Amay Thakkar, are seen pitching their dessert brand in an upcoming episode of Shark Tank India Season 5. After trying the product, Aman Gupta didn’t seem very convinced with their idea of introducing croissant-shaped waffles to the market. As he tried the snack, he said, “Basically, this is a waffle.” Kunal also pointed out, “You must have seen how well The Belgian Waffle Co has been doing.” Just then, one of the founders, Rahul, will reveal that their first location will be opened right opposite Belgian Waffle. While this received a thumbs up from Namita Thapar, Aman Gupta went on to call it a “smart move.”
But Kunal Behl seemed to disagree and was seen questioning the founders, “Why is it a smart move?” The founders also flaunted their numbers during the pitch, when one of them mentioned that the average selling price for their product is Rs 267. Kunal further added, “The Belgian Waffle Co has so much distribution; if they add a croffle menu, they are there.” Will they bag a deal or not remains to be seen; however, this season, the ‘sharks’ seem in no mood to overlook the smallest of details.
What makes The Croffle Guys pitch all the more interesting is that one of its founders, Rahul, also has a connection to the film industry. He has worked as an associate director with Kabir Khan on films like Chandu Champion and 83. Currently, Rahul also works part-time with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Veer Pinto has also been an artiste.
In another promo, Anupam Mittal, Mohit Yadav, and Namita Thapar are seen calling out a brand for its unethical ways. While there is no clarity on the brand’s name yet, in the promo we see Anupam saying, “I have understood that you are making some big claims, which are completely baseless.” Mohit Yadav adds, “Incorrect is a small word; this is fraud, going by what you are saying.” Namita Thapar also shares, “What you are doing is unethical.”
Shark Tank India 5’s selection process this year
Recently, in an exclusive interview with SCREEN, Ritesh Agarwal revealed that the makers of Shark Tank India have further streamlined the selection process this year. He shared, “In the last two years, I have seen that the tank has started doing due diligence on the company’s revenues, their history, their taxation, bank accounts, and lots of things. This is done so that those who come into the tank have a very high degree of qualification. From the percentage of people who want to be in the tank and who come to the tank, only 0.1 percent end up showing up to the tank. That’s so small, and the percentage is only reducing. Pitchers are becoming savvy, and it’s all becoming very mature. This season, you will find many unique perspectives on diligence, too. Compliance has become a very important part of diligence this year.”
Viraj Bahl added, “More than 95 percent are entrepreneurs telling us no post viewing, rather than the other way round. A lot of credit goes to Shark Tank organisers as they do a lot of financial diligence before the pitch reaches the tank.”
Shark Tank India 5 airs on Sony TV and streams on Sony Liv from January 5, every Monday to Friday at 8 pm.
