Saumya Tandon opens up about working with Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna in Dhurandhar and the upcoming Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain movie.

Actress Saumya Tandon, best known for playing Anita Bhabhi in the TV show Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain, is now making waves in the latest Aditya Dhar film, Dhurandhar. Saumya plays Akshaye Khanna’s wife in the film and has shot most of her scenes with Akshaye and Ranveer Singh. In an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha, Saumya opened up about working with her superstar co-stars and also the upcoming film version of her former hit TV show.
Saumya Tandon says, “I’m a huge admirer of Akshaye’s work. He’s extremely magnetic when he’s on the screen. It is actually quite a treat to watch him on the screen because he’s just so underplayed. I mean, he’s such a fantastic actor. So it was actually a delight to work with him.”
The actress adds, “And it was one of those cherries on the top to be cast as his wife. And to do all the scenes with him because I genuinely admire him. Apart from that, of course, Ranveer is one of the most powerful actors we have. And this is a very big film for him, and he has really put in his 100 per cent in it.”
“I mean, I have not really been throughout the film because I have a, you know, like I have small part which I play in it. But I have heard from everybody on the set that it was quite a gruelling shoot. And he has put in his 2000 per cent, and it’s showing. I think he deserves all the love for this,” she says.
Ranveer wasn’t the only actor for whom the film was intense. Even for Saumya, Dhurandhar marked a strategic shift from the usual roles that her fans see her in. She mentions, “It is inspired by a true incident, and it is a very intense film. It was something that I hadn’t done before. Usually, even when I did Jab We Met or all the other things while hosting or while doing my TV show, everything was in a very fun zone. So I hadn’t attempted anything very intense.”
Saumya continues, “And that is what Aditya (Dhar) told me when I was trying to come on board. I said that it’s a small part. He said that it is going to be interesting for you because it will be interesting for the viewers to see that side of you. As an actor, I was also excited to explore that. I hadn’t done that kind of work, even though I’m not the lead of it.”
Saumya Tandon became a household name after she starred as Anita Bhabhi in Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain. However, after a long run, the actress decided to leave the show and star in other projects that called out to her. Recently, it was announced that the show is getting a film version, and X users took to the social media site to demand the comeback of the “OG Anita Bhabhi”.
Saumya opines, “I think it’s better if the girl (Vidisha Srivastava) who continues to play Anita Bhabhi on the show should also be in the film, right? I feel that they have done a good job. I’ve heard such good things about the movie because I’m still in touch with all the actors, and I keep meeting the producers. They’re very excited about it.”
“And it seems to be like another fun riot. I’m sure it is going to catch eyeballs because it already has so much love from the audience. But because the show is still on, it was fair for them to, you know, continue with the girl who was the actress who was already doing Anita Bhabhi,” Saumya Tandon concludes.
