The Washington Commanders made a roster move on Friday morning.
With Noah Brown appearing to be ready to come off of injured reserve, the Commanders have released wide receiver Robbie Chosen.
Chosen appeared in three games for the Commanders this season. In his first game against Dallas, he was targeted four times and made all four receptions for 36 yards, including a 13-yard reception. Against the Lions, Chosen was targeted four times, catching one for 17 yards. In the Madrid, Spain game (Week 11), against the Dolphins, Chosen had one pass thrown his way, but did not make the reception.
Both Noah Brown and Terry McLaurin practiced fully on Thursday. Other receivers listed on the injury report for Thursday’s workout, Jaylin Lane (hip) and Treylon Burkes (finger), were both limited in practice. At the same time, Chris Moore (shoulder) was a full participant.
What kind of season has it been for the Commanders’ wide receiver group? Well, Wednesday was the very first time that McLaurin, Deebo Samuel, and Brown were all full participants on the practice field together since Week 2. The season has been so bad for the receiver group that fans were excited on Wednesday when these three were again on the practice field.
No doubt, quarterback Marcus Mariota will be glad to have all three. Mariota has really had to work with some make-shift arrangements and lineups for the Commanders. As for the 2025 season, well that depends upon to whom you talk. Some media and fans will be excited to see all three receivers together again, as it hasn’t happened since the Packers game. Others will feel like the season is over (no chance of a winning record), that this is all a waste of time. Some will even go so far as to suggest that the Commanders should not bring together their formerly injured players, in the hope that Washington will continue to lose and their draft position will continue to climb in these last six weeks of the season. The Commanders are currently in the No.7 draft position, through 12 weeks.
Chosen, age 32, actually entered the NFL as Robbie Anderson in 2016, having played his college ball at Temple U. With the Jets 2016-19, Anderson moved on to the Panthers for 2020 through 2022, before also playing for the Cardinals in 2022. Home was with the Miami Dolphins in 2023 and 2024. Chosen spent the training camp and preseason with the 49ers, was placed on their practice squad, and was released on September 8. With injuries to McLaurin and Brown, Washington reached out and signed Chosen to its practice squad on October 1.
For his career, Chosen has 385 receptions for 5,140 receiving yards (13.4 yards per reception) and 30 touchdowns in his 125 NFL regular-season games.
